10 Easy Steps To Go Green and Really Make A Difference In Your Pocketbook
First tip is to make it easy on your self and use one tip each week. It is a fact
that it takes 10 days to two weeks for something to become habit. Try it, I have and it really works.
1) It starts in the morning when we wake up. When brushing your teeth only turn the water on when you
need it, don't let it run. If we all did this it would save enough water to supply areas of the water that
don't have it.
2) If your a coffee drinker, use your coffee cup more than one day. It is proven that coffee does taste better
when you use the same cup for a couple of days. Using it once does not get it dirty. After each use just
simply do a quick rinse of it.
3) If you drink bottled water and insist on drinking it out of the bottle then buy bottled water that is in a
recycled bottle. The simplest and most effective is to get a reusable bottle and get a filtered container
such as Brita's system. You can get 300 bottles of water out of one filter, that is impressive. If you want to
you can even filter the water more than once.
4) Once in your car make gradual accelerations and don't speed. It doesn't save anytime to speed and uses
alot more fuel. You can save so much fuel by coasting down hills and shutting your car off if your running
into a store for a quick stop.
5) At work walk to your local lunch spot, it's great for your health and saves your fuel in your car.
6) Put a power strip on all electronics in your house and office. They are cheap and very effecient. Your can
save up to 30% on your utlity bill by simply shutting off electronics in your home and office. Cable boxes are
the worst, put your ear up close to one when it is shut off, you will hear a fan and motor running constantly,
Unless you record alot of shows it truly is a waste of money.
7) CFL lightbulbs are a simple way to make an immediate impact on your utility bill. They are cheap now and
you can buy them in bulk packs at your local big box stores.
8) When getting ready for bed, those clothes that you wore that day. Think about what you were doing, were
you in an office all day or working outdoors. If you simply wore them one day on the office they can be worn
again. Fibers in clothing breakdown quickly when washed frequently. Is what we're saying is you save on washing
and buying new clothes.
9) Plastic bags vs. reusable bags. Plastic bags are the worst thing next to plastic bottles for our environment.
Reusable bags are cheap and sometimes free, the reusable bags work much better and save on our environment.
One thing that drives me crazy when you go into a store and buy one thing they put it into a big plastic bag. It's
easier to carry it, teach clerks and cashiers not to bag everything.
10) Put a five gallon bucket in your shower, when you shower an average shower can trap up to four gallons of water
that can be used to water plants or simply flush your toilets. If you have three showers per day in your household
you can capture up to twelve gallons of water per day or 4,300 gallons per year.
There is thousands of tips to go green, start simple and develop new habits that will
affect your pocketbook in a positive way and help our planet forever.
